Sir Tom Jones’ wife tells him to “cut it out” if he shows off at home.
The Welsh singer has worked with many of the biggest names in the business, among them Robbie Williams and Van Morrison and was good friends with Elvis Presley.
Despite his exciting professional life, his wife of 55 years Linda doesn’t let him brag at home.
“There’s a lot of things involved [in a happy marriage]. You have to love each other, that’s number one. We’re both Welsh and we have the same sense of humour [that] is very important,” he said. “If I go in the house and I’m trying to [show off] my wife says, ‘Excuse me. I know who you are. And you know who I am. So let’s cut all that out.’”
Tom plans to keep on releasing music for the rest of his life. The 72-year-old doesn’t think his job is that hard and is always open when people quiz him about his professional life.
“With showbusiness, people say, ‘Is showbusiness hard work?’ I say, ‘Look, I haven’t really worked since 1962.’ Because I used to work in construction on building sites and that is physical work. I just love what I do and that’s a fact. So that’s what shines to me,” he told UK TV show Daybreak.
“It’s nice to have a rest but I don’t like being away from making music for too long. I don’t really have any other hobbies. Music is my thing.”
