‘Youth Without Youth’ – Metric’s first single from their fifth, full-length studio album – is out now on the band’s own Metric Music International (MMI).
Written by Metric and produced by the band’s guitarist Jimmy Shaw, ‘Youth Without Youth’ tackles the topic of a fraying social state with bristling energy and lyrical complexity.
It’s a startling vision of the now; a collective adolescence troubled by ennui. “Throw the brick through the windowpane / double dutch ‘til they stop the game / ‘til the cops show up,” sings enigmatic frontwoman Emily Haines, angst rising up in her throat. ‘Synthetica’ – the highly anticipated new album by the Canadian four-piece is released June 25th – and according to Haines, is “about insomnia, fucking up, fashion, all the devices and gadgets attached to our brains, getting wasted, watching people die in other countries, watching people die in your own country…”
