Jada Pinkett Smith has offered newly engaged Miley Cyrus marriage advice.

Miley, 19, and her 22-year-old fiancé Liam Hemsworth announced their engagement earlier this month.

Jada and her husband Will Smith tied the knot in 1997 and have son Jaden, 13, and 11-year-old daughter Willow together.

Jada doesn’t believe that marrying at a young age will necessarily make or break a couple.

“I got with Will when I was 23... so when I think about Miley and I’m like she’s engaged at 19? It’s a journey!” Jada told the US edition of OK! magazine. “It’s a beautiful journey, but it’s a journey. Lots of challenges. [Will and I] are nothing like we were when we first met. We’re nothing like that!”

Jada advises Miley to establish strong camaraderie with Liam before taking the plunge.

“I would say learn how to be friends because, especially when you’re starting that young, there’s lots of change coming. Lots of change. Lots of transition, you know?” Jada explained. “Forever is a long time. And when you’re starting forever at 19-years-old – it’s a long time!”

Jada and Will will celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary in December.
