Chaka Khan is excited to honour the memory of her late friend singer Whitney Houston.
Whitney died in a Los Angeles hotel on February 11 aged just 48.
Before she passed, the singer did a rendition of soul legend Chaka’s 1978 song I’m Every Woman in 1993, releasing the song to public acclaim.
Chaka can’t wait to sing tribute to Whitney at the Apollo Spring Gala in New York City Monday.
“I got asked to do it, and I said yes,” Chaka told USA Today. “It's no secret that I loved Whitney to death. I love her in death, as in life. [I’ll] probably sing I'm Every Woman. It's the song we share.”
Chaka is still unsettled by Whitney’s passing, but she has learned to embrace a new perspective on the event.
“I still feel all that,” Chaka explained. “But I've moved on — as has Whitney. At this point, we just make sure that her daughter [Bobbi Kristina Brown] is OK, and that all of our children don't fall into that horrible place this business can take you.”
Chaka is revolted by violence amongst children.
“I'm just sick of kids killing each other and getting killed,” Chaka said. “Teenage boys have become an endangered species. Maybe it's up to us women to step up and do something.”
