Word has just started to make it around the music world that Gary Brooker, lead singer of Procol Harum, fell in his South African hotel room on Tuesday while on tour and is in serious but stable condition from a fractured skull.

Procol Harum had been on tour in South Africa with fellow British groups 10 CC and the Moody Blues; however, the remaining concerts have been cancelled. The singer fell on his 67th birthday but, according to the promoter, he had not been out celebrating.

Attie van Wyk, CEO of Big Concerts, said "Our thoughts are with Gary and the band during this difficult time. We are confident that he is receiving the very best medical attention and we wish him a speedy recovery."

Procol Harum are scheduled to open for Yes this summer in North America. It is not known if this injury will change those plans.
