Adam Levine insists the reason he has been so "promiscuous" in the past is because he loves women "so much".
The hunky singer is famed for his cheeky charm and good looks, and has no shortage of female admirers. Adam - who recently split from model Anne V - says he appreciates the female form, which is why he has such a colourful dating history.
"There's two kinds of men: There are men who are f**cking misogynist pigs, and then there are men who just really love women, who think they're the most amazing people in the world. And that's me," Adam said in an interview with Details magazine.
"Maybe the reason I was promiscuous, and wanted to sleep with a lot of them, is that I love them so much."
Adam has been romantically linked to many high-profile stars in the past, including Jessica Simpson and Cameron Diaz. The Maroon 5 frontman is upset that his actions have previously sparked disdain from fans, as he wants to be respected for his music and television work.
"I've always felt a little misrepresented in the world," he mused. "I felt like people only knew me as a singer who dated pretty girls. A little bit of a bimbo. Maybe I was kind of a bimbo.
"I was the music dude that was naked all the time with the girls, and that's fine, no problem with that. But I wanted to create a little balance. When The Voice came around, I thought, 'People now know that I have a brain.'"
Adam stars as a judge and mentor on the US version of hit TV show The Voice, alongside Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green.
