Justin Timberlake is among stars to pay tribute to the late Robin Gibb.
The Bee Gees star died yesterday after a long battle with cancer. He was 62 and a host of celebrities have paid homage to his life and career.
“We have lost a truly brilliant musician today. One of my idols. My heart goes out to the Gibb family in this time of sorrow...RIP Robin (sic),” Justin wrote on Twitter.
Robin’s death comes just days after his fellow disco icon Donna Summer passed away. Both stars were remembered at last night’s Billboard Music Awards and La Toya Jackson has also passed on her condolences on Twitter.
“Why are we losing so many Great Artist! Robin Gibb you will be missed! And we will keep your music Staying Alive! #Night Fever! RIP (sic),” she wrote.
The social networking site has been awash with tributes to Robin after his family confirmed he had died yesterday. Rock star Bryan Adams and Westlife’s Shane Filan also posted messages about the late star.
“Robin Gibb RIP. Very sad to hear about yet another great singer dying too young,” Bryan wrote.
As well as achieving huge success in the Bee Gees alongside his twin Maurice and brother Barry, Robin and his siblings also wrote hit tracks for some of the biggest names in the business. They were behind songs performed by Dolly Parton, Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand, Destiny’s Child and Céline Dion.
Destiny’s Child star Michelle Williams was deeply saddened to hear of his death.
“RIP Robin Gibb!! #EMOTIONSTAKINGMEOVER (I’m so glad DC3 got the chance to remake that song) (sic),” she wrote, in reference to the track Emotion.
Other stars to express their support for Robin’s family include Dannii Minogue, Irish band The Script and Mick Hucknall.
Cancer survivor Lance Armstrong spoke of his “sadness” that the disease had claimed another life.
TV and radio presented Paul Gambaccini gave a lengthy tribute to the late star. He praised his musical skill and reminded people of the tremendous impact Robin had on the industry.
“Robin was talented beyond even his own understanding. Everyone should be aware that the Bee Gees are second only to Lennon and McCartney as the most successful songwriting unit in British popular music,” he said.
