Demi Lovato feels the entertainment industry is “glorifying” an unhealthy body image.

The actress entered a rehab facility in October 2010 to receive help for an eating disorder and emotional issues.

She believes young girls are made to feel they should look like thin models and celebrities they see in magazines, TV shows and movies.

“I feel as if television and movies are now glorifying an unhealthy body image, which puts a lot of pressure on young girls, especially girls who are growing up and trying to find themselves,” she told UK TV show Daybreak.

“A lot of young girls are insecure and look to magazines to see what they should look like and I think that the film industry and television industry should take more responsibility.”

However, Demi does not blame the entertainment industry for her own insecurities. The Camp Rock star says her lack of confidence was a result of childhood problems.

“A lot of people ask me, ‘Do you think it’s because you started in the industry so young? Is it the pressures of being in this industry?’ I say no because my problems were starting when I was 12 or 11 years old. I was bullied when I was 12 and that is when I got really sick,” she said.

“So it has been going on for a long time now, but finally I have gotten help.”

The 19-year-old star has been open with her struggles in the past. She agreed to discuss her issues in an MTV documentary called Demi Lovato: Stay Strong.
