An excerpt from Johnny Ramone’s autobiography discusses his anger issues, their signature look, rejecting drugs and more.

New York magazine has published an excerpt of a forthcoming autobiography by Johnny Ramone, guitarist for New York punk icons the Ramones.

The autobiography is titled Commando: The Autobiography of Johnny Ramone, which he started writing after falling ill at the end of the century. Johnny passed away in 2004 after a battle with prostate cancer.

The excerpt reveals, in blunt tones, how out of step Johnny felt with the CBGBs scene, and recalls the birth of the band, the Phil Spector handgun incident, his right-wing views, his attitude to money, and more. Check it out here.

Commando: The Autobiography of Johnny Ramone will be released in early April through Abrams Image.
