The childhood homes in Liverpool of Paul McCartney and John Lennon have been given a heritage listing.

John was raised by his Aunt Mimi at 251 Menlove Avenue in Woolton while Paul grew up at 20 Forthlin Road in Allerton.

Many of songs composed by Lennon and McCartney in the early days of The Beatles were written in the houses.

Paul was 13 when the family moved into the house in Allerton. He moved out when he was 22. John lived in the Woolton house from age 5 to 22.

‘Please Please Me’, the first number one hit for The Beatles was written in John’s house.

The houses have a Grade II ranking meaning they are ‘nationally important and of special interest’.
