Madonna has shown she doesn’t take herself too seriously in her new Model Search campaign.

The superstar has released a four minute promo to promote her new Material Girl Lucky Stars Model Search.

The apparently candid clip shows Madonna and her daughter Lourdes talking about the Vogue singer’s career so far.

"When I started off and people called me the Material Girl it was meant to be ironic,” Madonna says. “Not to be meant to be taken seriously. I’m not sure people understand irony in this day and age. I can't live that name down now."

The 53-year-old also made light of the recent incident in which she showed disdain towards a fan and their gift. The star was caught on camera saying she “loathed” hydrangeas after she was handed a bunch of them.

"People think I am a superficial person. And I am not,” she explains. “I love horses. I love flowers. I don't love hydrangeas. I love nature. Trees. Animals. I don't love all animals."

The mother and daughter duo have partnered with Macy's to take on the model search.

A panel of celebrity judges, led by Kelly Osbourne, will search the USA for the face of the line’s Spring 2012 campaign.

The competition will launch on November 2 at Macy's Herald Square in New York City and will then head to Miami, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Madonna and Lourdes will naturally have the final say in who wins the competition. The winner will also receive $5,000 as a cash prize.
