Gavin DeGraw felt his life was “in jeopardy” during his brutal beating.
The American singer was assaulted in New York earlier this month. A group of men jumped on him as he walked home in the early hours of the morning. He was left with concussion, a broken nose, black eyes, cuts and bruises.
Gavin needed hospital care and has spoken of how terrifying the ordeal was.
“The first thing on my mind was, ‘My life’s in jeopardy’ and I was bleeding pretty bad... Fortunately I lived through it. It was very bloody,” he explained to DC’s Hot 99.5’s Toby Knapp.
The 34-year-old is now recovering and remembering more about the incident. Shortly after it happened he admitted the whole episode was a blank. However, he now claims it started after someone made an offensive comment.
“I met up with a couple of friends... I was walking home... I got a few blocks and then all hell broke loose,” he recalled “Somebody said something to me. I didn’t like. I let them know I didn’t like it...”
Following the attack Gavin had to cancel a string of concerts. He was due to perform with bands Maroon 5 and Train between August 14 and August 22. He is now concentrating on returning to full strength so he can perform again.
