Tom Hamiltion has taken to Twitter to announce that he has NOT undergone any surgery as reported by the San Antonio TV station.

I did not undergo any surgery... this year. All this news is about 2009. Thanks for the wishes though!

Tom Hamilton, bassist for Aerosmith, has gone under the knife a second time in his fight with cancer.

Hamilton was originally diagnosed with cancer of the tongue back in 2006 and underwent radiotherapy to eradicate the errant cells. The surgery forced him to miss most of the band's tour that year but he was able to announce that he was cancer free.

Earlier this year, he found out that the cancer was back and had spread to his voice box. According to KSAT television in San Antonio, that's when he contacted Dr. Steven Zeitals who had used a green-light KTP laser in previous treatments to help preserve use of the vocal chords. While Zeitals used it on the new cancer, Hamilton was the first to be treated in this way for cancer at the base of the tongue.

Hamilton credits the doctor for saving his voice. "I was just terrified. I really though, 'Oh, I am looking at not being able to talk.' The second I had a tiny bit of consciousness, the first thing I did was make a sound, and it felt normal, and it sounded normal."

Tom is planning on being back with the group when they kick off their tour of Mexico and South America this fall.
