UK pop scamp Lily Allen says she’s almost finished writing the songs for a stage version of Bridget Jones’ Diary.
NME notes that the pop star has revealed that her work on the project is almost done.
Allen told Elle magazine that “I'm still writing. I'm just writing for other people. I've nearly finished a musical. I think it'll be out sometime next year".
That’s the stage adaptation of Helen Fielding’s 1996 Chick Lit juggernaut which was turned into a hugely successful film in 2001.
The stage show is scheduled to debut in London’s West End theatre district and, thanks to Allen’s quote, the timing’s been narrowed down a little.
Allen has been working on the songs with US songwriter and producer Greg Kurstin, who has previously worked with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gwen Stefani, Yusef Islam and more.
According to an interview with the Mirror a year ago, Allen already had ten songs approved for the show, saying, “I'm hugely proud of this and it's something I've worked really bloody hard on. The money would be great but it's being recognised as a songwriter and lyricist that truly excites me."
