Angus and Julia Stone scored Songwriter and Song Of The Year at last night’s APRA Awards.

The ceremony, hosted by The Chaser’s Chris Taylor and Andrew Hanson, took place at CarriageWorks in Sydney and celebrated the finest Australian songwriters of the year.

Angus and Julia Stone took home two awards – Songwriter Of The Year and Song Of The Year for ‘Big Jet Plane’. Jet also nabbed two – Most Performed Australian Work and Rock Work Of The Year for their single ‘Seventeen’.

Other winners included Washington as Breakthrough Songwriter Of The Year, Guy Sebastian for Urban Work Of The Year, John Butler for Blues and Roots Work Of The Year for ‘Close To You’, and Kasey Chambers won for Country Work of the Year for ‘Little Bird’, her tenth which ties Savage Garden for most APRA Awards won.

Patrick Monahan, Amund Bjorklund and Espen Lin won International Work Of The Year for Train’s ‘Hey, Soul Sister’.

Paul Kelly was honoured with the Ted Albert Award For Outstanding Services To Australian Music, presented by Andrew Denton.

There were also performances by Savage Garden’s Darren Hayes, who played Birds Of Tokyo’s Song Of The Year-nominated ‘Plans’, and rising star Kimbra, who performed ‘Across The Night’ as a tribute to the recently-split Silverchair.

And AC/DC scored an APRA Award for Most Played Australian Work internationally for ‘Highway to Hell’.
