Joan Jett and Cherie Currie are taking legal action over the release of a Runaways tribute record.
Joan Jett and Cherie Currie, former bandmates in the 70's punk-rock group the b, are suing the makers of a new two-CD tribute album to the group.
Take It or Leave It: A Tribute to the Queens of Noise is set for an October 28 release on Main Man Records. The two-CD set includes performances by the Donnas, the Bebe Buell Band, the Dandy Warhols, David Johansen and more.
Jett and Currie's objections to the album are not based in the music but in the way that it has been developed and marketed. Specifically, they allege that a previous staff member of Jett's record label was involved in the tribute album and implied Joan's blessing while both artists say Main Man has been using their names to promote the release.
According to their lawyer, Oren J. Warshavsky, "This isn't about money. This is strictly about preserving reputation and quality that both Joan and Cherie are known for."
