On June 21st, guitar legend Duane Eddy will play London’s legendary music venue the 100 Club.
The show will celebrate the release of his new album Road Trip, his first for 25 years… Road Trip features 11 songs, recorded in 11 days at Yellow Arch Studios in Sheffield, October 2010. The album was co-produced by long-time fan Richard Hawley – whom, along with members of his band, co-wrote a selection of the album’s songs with Duane. Duane and Hawley met last year at the Mojo Awards, where Duane was awarded the Mojo Icon Award.
Taking to the stage with Duane will be members of Richard’s band, all of whom played on Road Trip: Colin Elliot – Bass and co-producer, Shez Sheridan – Guitar, Jon Trier – Piano, Dean Beresford – Drums, and Ron Dziubla – Sax. The set will feature songs from Eddy’s new album, as well as a selection of era-defining classic rock’n’roll songs, from one of the most important and inventive guitarists ever.
Later the same week, on Sunday 26th, around 4.30pm, Duane will take to the West Holt Stage at Glastonbury Festival. This will be followed by other activity in July, to be confirmed shortly.
Road Trip will be released through Mad Monkey Records, in conjunction with EMI. It will be available on CD, digital download and heavyweight, gatefold-vinyl.
Duane Eddy’s importance is immeasurable. He has been credited as one of the originator’s of rock ’n’ roll’s dirtier guitar sound with his unique ‘Twang’ sound, helping to keep the genre alive when it became safe and commodified, and cited as an influence by such luminaries and peers as Hank Marvin, Jimmy Page, Steve Cropper, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Ry Cooder, Art of Noise (with whom he had a Top 10 hit of a remaking of his classic 1960 hit ‘Peter Gunn’), Dave Davies of The Kinks, and many, many more.
