Don Henley was presented with the inaugural Recording Artists Coalition Award this week by The Recording Academy in Washington, D.C.
The Eagles founder was presented with the award for his commitment for improving the environment for the nation’s music community.
Henley has spoken out for years about artists rights. “What creators — musicians, singers, songwriters, producers — contribute to the world’s culture and economy should be valued and protected,” says Henley. “I hope that legislators will do more to protect creators and their ability to earn a living from their craft. This is about jobs and fairness.”
American Vice President Joe Biden was also honored by the Academy and Henley approves of the recognition. “Vice President Biden has been a longtime supporter of artists and copyright holders,” he says at politico.com. “His pro-copyright record during his tenure in the Senate is unassailable. And as Vice President he was instrumental in the implementation of the Office of the Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator. The creative community is very fortunate to call the vice president a friend”.
The Eagles have just completed an Asian tour including their first shows ever in China. The next leg of their world tour commences on June 12 in Europe.
