The 29-year-old singer split with her husband The Dream in 2010 after less than a year of marriage following reports of infidelity, despite being pregnant with their child, but believes the relationship helped her learn more about herself.

She said: “I feel brand new. I’ve been to hell and back, but I’ve survived. I’m stronger for it and now I’m ready for the next phase of my life.

“I learned a lot about myself this year. I learned what I can handle. I learned how much I can take.”

It also assisted her in discovering what was healthy for her 11-month-old daughter Violet, and taught her people cannot change.

She told Latina magazine: “I learned who I am and what I will accept for myself and my daughter.

“No matter what, you can’t change who you are. I know that now. I tried to be someone I wasn’t because I wanted my marriage to work. But ultimately, if it’s not working, it’s not working.”

Discussing suggestions of infidelity, Christina believes she knew something was amiss with her husband – who she married at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada in September 2009 – but didn’t confront him.

She said: “I didn’t know anything. But looking back, my gut was telling me something was off. But I thought I could fix it.”
