The Cars, or at least the surviving members, have hinted at a reformation via Facebook.

The band subtly put a photo of themselves up on their facebook fan page showing the surviving members jamming in a studio.

The photo shows Ric Ocasek, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes and David Robinson looking laid back and happy.

There is no official announcement, no caption to the photo, no nothing, but we can safely assume the band are letting us know that they’re back.

In 2005, Elliot Easton and Greg Hawkes formed “The New Cars” with Todd Rundgren, Prairie Prince and Kasim Sulton where they played a mix of Cars and Rundgren tracks, but this will be the first time the band has properly reunited since their disbanding in 1988.

The band had several hits including ‘Drive’, ‘Just What I Needed’ and ‘You Might Think’. Various members have gone on to record solo albums.

One of the band's two lead singers Ric Ocasek has produced albums from Weezer, Bad Religion, No Doubt, Suicide, Hole and Motion City Soundtrack amongst others. The other, Benjamin Orr died of pancreatic cancer on October 3, 2000.
