125 songs have been submitted for the 19th edition of Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza which will be held in September as part of the Independence festivities.
The organising committee will now be working on the different phases of the competition that will lead to the final night in September. The submission process was followed closely by members of the committee and by Horace Anastasi on behalf of UKAM.
From 125 songs submitted, 93 were for the established singers phase (aged 16 upwards) while 32 were of the Talent Żagħżugħ section (open for those aged between 14 and 26).
The next phase of the festival will be held on Sunday, June 6, when a panel of judges will listen to the 93 songs submitted for the established singers category. 50 will make it to the second phase when they will be performing live in front of another set of judges who will be casting their votes so that 20 will make it to the final.
All the songs from the Talent Żagħżugħ section will make it directly to the second phase. The 15 most voted songs will then be making it to this year’s edition of Net TV’s weekly IndiFest programme which will kick off on Tuesday, July 13. The primetime show will be hosted by Frank Zammit, Ronald Briffa and Christine Haber.
The show, produced by Frederick Zammit and Anthony Busuttil, will give the 15 young singers a chance to perform live on TV. Judges will have 50 per cent of the final vote whilst the other 50 per cent will be public voting. The 3 most voted singers will then be competing for the title on the final night of the festival.
The Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza 2010 organising committee is formed by chairman Frederick Zammit, Mildred Micallef, Marc Calleja Bayliss, Emil Calleja Bayliss and Ray Cassar.
