Kelly Clarkson gets mistaken for fellow American Idol winner Carrie Underwood "all the time".

The Breakaway hitmaker won the inaugural season of the hit Fox reality contest back in 2002, while Carrie emerged victorious on the fourth season of the show in 2005.

And while both have gone on to enjoy extraordinary careers, fans are still having a hard time telling the two women apart, with Kelly revealing she always gets complimented for Carrie's songs by unwitting fans.

During a chat with comedian Gabriel Iglesias and The Good Place actress D’Arcy Carden about awkward encounters with fans on her The Kelly Clarkson Show talk show, the singer revealed: “Seriously, I have been asked so many times or they’ll be like, ‘Oh my gosh, I love your song So Small.

"And I’m like, ‘I don’t even know what that is.’ And then I’ll find out it’s Carrie Underwood. And then I’m like, ‘Thank you!'... ‘Cause I’m, like, legit a hundred pounds heavier than Carrie Underwood.”

Earlier this year, the stars were forced to deny they were locked in a bitter feud after America's Star magazine published a piece on the pair with the headline, "Secret Feud Explodes!" Dispelling the rumours, both took to Twitter to poke fun at the report as they exchanged playful banter.
