Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry have done their utmost to feel "tethered" to one another to make their long-distance relationship work.

As a successful Hollywood actor and a platinum-selling recording artist, the pair have equally busy work schedules, meaning they rarely get the chance to spend time together.

And while many couples would struggle to make such a romance last, Orlando and Katy have figured out how to cope with long periods of not seeing each other.

When asked how he and Katy make their relationship work during an interview with People, Orlando replied: "That's part of the job, right? You have to do the groundwork together, create the feeling of trust and safety so that you can spend time apart and do everything that you need to do and still feel tethered to that person, so that you can go on a journey together."

The 42-year-old actor, who proposed to Katy back in February, also opened up about how planning for their wedding is going, adding: "In the sense that we are doing all the work necessary to lay a really grounded foundation to our relationship."

His reply echoed Katy's sentiment during an interview earlier this month, when she said: "I think we're doing really great, and we're really doing the hard work laying a beautiful foundation before we start to build a massive house. It's important for us to do the work before we go and take this really big next step."

This will be the second marriage for both Orlando and Katy - he was married to model Miranda Kerr, while she was married to comedian Russell Brand.
