Justin Bieber has apologised to teen star JoJo Siwa after appearing to shade her with a remark about her rainbow-coloured car.

JoJo, the 15-year-old former star of U.S. reality series Dance Moms, has made a career for herself thanks to the popularity of her large, colourful hair bows, which are worn and loved by fans worldwide. To celebrate her success, JoJo's parents bought her a rainbow-coloured BMW convertible bearing her name and image for Christmas, with the teen sharing a snap of the eye-catching vehicle on her Instagram page.

Staff at West Coast Customs, who customised the car, reposted her picture on their own page, and Sorry star Justin proved he wasn't a big fan of the design by writing "Burn it" three times in the comments.

JoJo's mother Jessalynn was among the first to respond, replying with a crying with laughter emoji and telling the star to "burn your own things".

The comment and remarks from fans accusing him of shading Jojo led to Justin issuing an apology, as he tweeted on Sunday (30Dec18): "@itsjojosiwa I have nothing against you it was the car and the colours I didn't like I really hope you didn't think it was malicious or mean spirited."

The apology went down well with the YouTube star, who also turned the situation to her advantage as she tweeted in reply: "it's all good bro! you can perform at my 16th birthday party and we'll call it good!"

Despite Justin's comment on JoJo's car, the 24-year-old singer is partial to a customised vehicle himself. In 2013 he raised eyebrows when he stepped out with a leopard-print sports car, while in 2017, Justin decked out his Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon with a Christmas design.
