The Weeknd is reportedly set to make his movie debut in Adam Sandler's crime drama Uncut Gems.

The Canadian singer, real name Abel Tesfaye, was spotted on the set of the film in New York on Monday (15Oct18), sources have told New York Post's Page Six. He reportedly performed during a scene with Sandler and rapper Trinidad James at popular nightclub 1 OAK, a location the funnyman suggested himself.

"They're filming there and took over for several days. They're shooting a club scene," the source said.

It is not known how big the 28-year-old's part is, and if he will be playing himself or a character. It will mark his first feature film role and the first time he has starred in a project onscreen besides his music videos.

Despite that, he already has an Oscar nomination to his name - for Best Original Song for Earned It, taken from 2015 film Fifty Shades of Grey.

Uncut Gems is being directed by Josh and Benny Safdie, best known for the Robert Pattinson movie Good Time, and will also star Idina Menzel, Lakeith Stanfield, and Judd Hirsch. Jonah Hill was originally attached to star when the film was announced at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, but Sandler was drafted in earlier this year after the Superbad actor dropped out.

The drama, which began shooting around two weeks ago, follows Sandler's character, a jewellery store owner with a gambling addiction who is desperate to find a way to pay off his debts.

Scott Rudin is producing, while Martin Scorsese is acting as executive producer.
