Jason Aldean hates the fact he'll forever be associated with the horrors of the Route 91 Harvest Festival massacre.

As he prepares to mark the first anniversary of the awful night, when 58 people were killed after a gunman opened fire as Aldean performed, he admits it isn't something he wants to be connected with for the duration of his career.

"That's not something I want on my resume for the rest of my life," he tells TV show Today. "For me, it's something that I want to forget, but it's something that I choose to not relive over and over."

Aldean admits the most terrifying thing about the Las Vegas incident on 1 October, 2017 was the fact his pregnant wife Brittany was backstage as he ran for cover once the shots rang out.

"It definitely was scary," he says. "I hate that she was there to have to experience it. On the other hand, I know if she was at home and saw it on the news she would've freaked out, and I don't know what would've been worse."

And he still feels awful for the families of fans who never came home after the show.

"When somebody buys a ticket to our show or comes into an arena to watch you play, we want them to come, have fun, get home safe, and come see us the next time we're in town," he adds. "The last thing we're thinking is they're going to show up and never leave."

Aldean and his wife have spent time with survivors of the massacre and he recently hand delivered a signed guitar to a fan who sustained serious injuries during the shooting.
