Selena Gomez has finally spoken about her longtime pal Demi Lovato's suspected overdose.

The two stars have been friends since they appeared together as children on TV show Barney & Friends and have since navigated their respective showbiz careers together.

Selena steered clear of making a public comment when Demi was hospitalised in July (18) after being found unconscious at her Hollywood Hills home, but the 26-year-old has now shared that she did quietly reach out to the Skyscaper singer.

"All I'm saying is, I reached out personally. I didn't do a public thing," she told U.S. Elle magazine. "I didn't want to. I...I love her. I've known her since I was seven. So...it's...that's what I'll say."

Demi was reported to be stable and recovering in hospital after the event and is currently believed to be undergoing treatment in rehab.

During the interview, Selena spoke about the state of her own health and wellbeing too, as she had a turbulent 2017, which included having a kidney transplant in the summer and parting ways with her boyfriend The Weeknd a few months later.

"It's peaceful. It's weird. The moment I turned 26, I felt 26. Right now, I feel very sure of where I am. I don't feel erratic or emotionally unstable. Or like I can't handle my emotions, like I used to," the Wolves hitmaker said. "It's kind of understanding myself a little more. By all means I don't have myself figured out. But it feels good."

As Selena is now feeling much more stable, she is juggling a variety of projects including designing a collection for Coach and volunteering for A21, a global anti-human-trafficking nonprofit organisation.

Plus, she's also gearing up to release another album, which will include a track titled Flawless.

"Meaning through all your imperfections, you're flawless. You're not striving," she explained about the song. "It's me encouraging a younger version of myself. Even when you're imperfect, even when you're feeling worthless, you are flawless. It's a song I'm going to sing for the rest of my life."
