Britney Spears' father has reportedly offered her ex-husband Kevin Federline more child support in an effort to end the former couple's legal battle.

The former couple shares joint custody of sons Sean, 12, and 11-year-old Jayden, and earlier this year (18), the 40-year-old filed court papers hoping to double his monthly $20,000 (£15,300) child support payments.

He argued his income had drastically decreased in the decade since they last amended the financial details of their agreement, while the Toxic hitmaker's fortune has been boosted significantly thanks to her Las Vegas residency, which reportedly earned her $475,000 (£362,500) per show until it wrapped at the end of 2017.

Attorneys for the exes headed to court on Friday (27Jul18), when Britney's legal representative made it clear she is not prepared to hand over extra funds to Federline, because the money should be more than enough to live comfortably for the time their kids spend with their dad.

The Blast later reported that Britney's dad, Jamie Spears, recently reached out to Kevin privately and offered an additional $10,000 (£7,600) per month, in an effort to end the bitter legal battle.

However, the ex-dancer's legal team is reportedly reluctant to let their client accept the deal, and wants him to hold out for a much higher offer.

During the hearing on Friday, Britney's attorneys also requested to delay the case to allow them extra time to gather further financial documents from officials overseeing her ongoing conservatorship, a move Federline's representative challenged.

Britney has been under a legal conservatorship since her highly-publicised breakdown in 2007, when her father Jamie was put in charge of the singer's finances.
