Mel B has undergone a drastic operation to remove a tattoo of her ex-husband Stephen Belafonte's name from her ribcage.

The former Spice Girl, who agreed a $6.5 million (£4.8 million) divorce deal with Stephen, 42, last month (Nov17), did have the words, "Stephen, till death do us part you own my heart" inked on her body.

Mel, 42, who accused Stephen of domestic abuse during their bitter divorce battle, has now had her ex's name cut away from her body - choosing to undergo an operation that left her needing 13 stitches rather than remove it with laser surgery.

Speaking about the operation to MailOnline, she said, "I wanted the tattoo removed to help close the final chapter on a toxic relationship. Even though I've taken the steps to remove Stephen's name from my body, the domestic abuse will forever remain with me."

Images obtained by the newspaper show Mel, full name Melanie Brown, with a large scar on her skin, exactly where Stephen's name appeared to be. The other words remain intact.

Despite officially settling their divorce after a decade of marriage, the warring ex-couple are still at odds and battling in the courts.

Last week (end10Dec17), Stephen filed new court papers asking the judge overseeing their case to punish Mel for missing the deadline for a spousal support payment, and for allegedly failing to allow him access to their former marital home in Los Angeles so he can collect his belongings.

According to TMZ.com, the Wannabe singer's lawyer has already responded, admitting that she was a few days late in paying up,but has since cut her ex support cheques for November and December (17). A judge has yet to rule on the matter.

Mel's legal representative also criticised Stephen over his house complaint, accusing him of being unreasonable in refusing to give the star any advanced notice of his plans to visit.

As part of their divorce agreement Mel and Stephen will share joint legal custody of their six-year-old daughter, Madison. The singer also has two other daughters from previous relationships.
