Aaron Carter knew he was bisexual when he was just 12 years old.
The 29-year-old took to Twitter late on Saturday night (05Aug17) to share an emotional letter with fans, revealing he is attracted to both men and women.
Opening up further about his decision to go public with his sexuality news, Aaron told The Bert Show in an interview airing on Wednesday that his bisexuality isn't a new thing - he started having feelings towards men aged just 12.
"To be honest, I’ve been thinking about it for many years,” Aaron said. "I just felt like it was something I needed to do… It was something that I just felt like was important and I needed to say. It was a part of a new chapter of turning 30, on 7 December this year."
"It wasn’t until I was about 17 until… there was somebody I had a small relationship with,” he said of his own confirmation about his bisexuality. "The process is at your own pace and when you feel comfortable. There might be a lot of people who don’t agree with it, but you might be surprised by the people who do. I was shocked - I was blown away. My fans know that I’m a heart on the sleeve kinda guy. That’s the way I am.”
Following Aaron's Twitter reveal, it was confirmed that he had split from girlfriend Madison Parker. And during the interview with The Bert Show, the I Want Candy star admitted that "turmoil" and "personal issues" in the pair's relationship was another reason he wanted to "come out".
"I had discussed it with my ex-girlfriend, and she didn’t really understand it and she didn’t want (to). And that was it! So we left it mutual and parted ways," he explained.
Now Aaron is looking to the future, and while he's currently a "single man", he doesn't know whether he will end up with a man or a woman.
"Whether I choose to be with a woman or a man is my decision," he insisted. "I find men and women attractive and that’s never gonna change."
