Adele paid an emotional visit to the site of a huge fire in London on Wednesday night (14Jun17), hugging victims and doing her best to offer "comfort" to those affected by the tragedy.

The blaze, which began at the 24-storey Grenfell Tower in London at around 1am on Wednesday morning, claimed the lives of at least 12 people, injuring 74 more, with dozens still missing.

Wearing a long black dress, Adele kept a low profile as she arrived at the apartment building in the affluent Notting Hill neighbourhood of the English capital. The 29-year-old singer was reportedly accompanied by husband Simon Konecki as she made her way round the area that has become a vigil site for victims.

The Hello singer made no public announcement of her decision to visit the site, but was spotted by several fans who took to Twitter to praise their idol.

"Adele was going around and hugging everyone she could to comfort them," one wrote on Twitter, while another added, "Adele is at currently at Grenfell Tower asking if anyone needs help that was affected by the fire".

A third tweeted: "The fact that Adele has gone to Grenfell tower and not said a word about it just proves how amazingly sincere she is... Adele is an angel, she deserves heaven, biggest heart ever, so proud of her.”

Photographs of the mother-of-one at the site showed her struggling to control her emotions as she witnessed first-hand the devastation caused by the inferno.

One snap showed Adele looking distraught as she talked to people at the site, while in another she was being given a hug by a bystander as she appeared to be struggling to control her tears.

Hundreds of people have been left homeless by the fire, with many celebrities taking to their social media to urge people to help in any way they can.

TV chef Jamie Oliver offered victims food and drink free of charge at his restaurant in the nearby area of Shepherd's Bush, while British presenter Jeremy Clarkson cleared out his wardrobe to find clothes to donate to those affected, urging others to do the same.
