The Tandem Festival 2017 lineup has been announced – diverse, zesty and handpicked for an unforgettable musical experience. There’s something for everyone from funk and reggae to solo Bach, swinging ceilidhs to late night DJs, and folk musicians from around the globe sharing the sounds of their cultures. As well as music, the festival will be packed with dance, storytelling, film, talks, crafts and spaces to be creative for all ages. We also have an incredible programme of workshops to introduce you to topics from laughter yoga and massage to woodwork and feminism for dads.

Our internationally acclaimed music headliners this year:

Moulettes - Art-Rock band currently touring their fourth studio album, a blend of rock, prog, folk and indie. .
Zlabya - The first UK appearance of energetic French band, playing dance tunes with gypsy, Irish, Breton, and jazz influences.
Åkervinda – Swedish Jazz acapella quartet performing modern, vivid reinterpretations of Nordic folk song.
Firefly Burning – Breathtaking minimalist avant-pop from North London.
Solana - Polyrhythmic folk-world fusion, blending folk, reggae, African and Latin sounds.

As well as hosting internationally acclaimed acts, Tandem Festival pioneers a community-led approach. We collaborate with a network of over 60 Community Action Groups in Oxfordshire, to showcase local environmental and social projects and bring you a range of exciting workshops and craft activities. We also showcase the best of Oxford’s artistic talent, including up-and-coming bands such as Catgod, Matt Chanarin, Jonny Payne & The Thunder, Okina and Yakez plus late night set from Bossaphonik DJ Dan. The path-breaking chamber orchestra, Sinfonia Gaia, will also be making an exclusive festival appearance.

The festival will also be hosting Ethno England, one of a series of international folk camps where young musicians come together share traditional music from their different cultures. The camp will run for the 10 days leading up to festival, culminating in a festival performance.

About Tandem Festival
Tandem Festival celebrates culture, fosters cooperation and inspires change, and we’re back for our 3rd edition! This summer the Tandem experience comes to life from 16th - 18th June in the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside at Lower Farm, Ramsden. Cycle powered, volunteer-run and community led, Tandem brings you different worlds of music, art, talks, workshops, film, dance and food. At Tandem, what’s good for your ears, eyes and dancing shoes can be good for the planet too.

Our diverse, handpicked lineup includes internationally acclaimed bands from prog-rock to funk to solo Bach, late night DJs, folk musicians from around the world and the best of local talent. Plus an amazing programme of activities - dance, film, storytelling, crafts, wellbeing therapies and workshops to introduce you to topics from acroyoga to woodwork to feminism for dads.

Eco-friendliness and inclusivity are at the heart of our festival. We incentivise low-carbon transport to the festival (get on your bike!), avoid non-recyclable waste, upcycle everything we can and only serve veggie/vegan ethically and locally sourced food. The site is step-free and family-friendly with unisex and accessible toilets.

This year’s festival is being held in memory of long-time Tandem team member Claudia Comberti, who was killed by a bus whilst cycling on Botley road earlier this month. She was a shining example of the Tandem’s ethical values – of how we can all live out our ethical values in day to day life, with the love, support and inspiration of the community around us. Tandem Festival 2017 will be held in memory of Claudia, to continue the celebration of her life, to bring the community together, to listen, learn and dance in nature and to get energised to bring about positive change in whatever way we can.

Volunteering

The festival is volunteer-run and we have great opportunities to get involved with set-up, pack-down, stewarding and much more (and of course enjoy the festival for free in return). Volunteers can apply at: http://tandemcollective.org/tandem-festival/get-involved/
