Rapper Drake is already a winner ahead of Sunday night's (21May17) Billboard Music Awards after scoring 10 honours before the show even began.

The Hotline Bling hitmaker and dance stars The Chainsmokers led all nominees heading into the 2017 prizegiving with 22 nods each, and both acts racked up early wins before even hitting the red carpet in Las Vegas.

Among Drake's new accolades include Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Rap Artist, Top Streaming Songs Artist, Top Rap Album for Views, and Top R&B Song and Top R&B Collaboration for One Dance with Wizkid and Kyla.

The Chainsmokers picked up three awards before the ceremony: Top Dance/Electronic Artist, and Top Dance/Electronic Song and Top Collaboration for their Halsey hit Closer.

Meanwhile, pregnant Beyonce claimed five early prizes: Top Female Artist, Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Album for Lemonade, Top Touring Artist, and Top R&B Tour.

Other artists celebrating wins before the event include Twenty One Pilots, who landed four honours, and Justin Timberlake, whose Can't Stop the Feeling! hit was named Top Radio Song and Top Selling Song.

Drake, The Chainsmokers, and Beyonce will all be vying for the biggest award of the night, Top Artist, going up against fellow nominees Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Adele, Ariana Grande, The Weekend, Twenty One Pilots, and Shawn Mendes.

Nicki Minaj will open the ceremony at the T-Mobile Arena, while her friend and frequent collaborator Drake is reportedly preparing to perform a set in the middle of the famed Fountains of Bellagio outside the Bellagio hotel and resort.

Other acts due to hit the stage include John Legend, Florida Georgia Line, and former Fifth Harmony star Camila Cabello, while rockers Imagine Dragons will pay a special tribute to late Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell following his suicide on Wednesday night (17May17).

Rapper/actor Ludacris and actress Vanessa Hudgens will host the 2017 Billboard Music Awards.
