Rapper Trinidad James has joined the cast of Pitch Perfect 3.
The Georgia-based hip hop star, who released his debut single All Gold Everything in 2012, will play a member of a vocal group competing against Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson's Barden Bellas in the upcoming sequel.
Real name Nicholas Williams, the musician was born in Trinidad before his family moved to Canada and later upped sticks to the United States, where he was raised. He was previously signed to Def Jam Records, but left the label in 2014 and his latest mixtape The Wake Up 2 was released under Universal earlier this month (Jan17). Universal Pictures is distributing Pitch Perfect 3, which could be the link to his involvement in the feature.
Hailee Steinfeld, Anna Camp, Ruby Rose, and Brittany Snow will also appear in the film, which is currently being shot in Atlanta with Trish Sie in the director's chair. Photos from the set have emerged online showing the actresses hard at work filming and it seems Rebel’s character Fat Amy will be paying tribute to the late singer Amy Winehouse by the looks of one of her costumes.
The Australian star was snapped sporting a giant beehive wig, heavy eye make-up and fake tattoos, along with the Rehab singer’s distinct lip piercing, while dressed in a leopard print skirt and tartan halter-neck top. At one point Rebel was seen performing under a sign for the Back to Black Box Theater, referencing Amy’s famous album Back to Black.
Building buzz for the flick, Elizabeth Banks – who stars as Gail in all three movies and also directed the second – has launched an online initiative called ‘Go Pitch Yourself’. The contest, led by the actress and executives from Universal and WhoHaha, welcomes video submissions from Pitch Perfect fans to win the chance to produce a marketing campaign for the movie.
“Being a content creator is more than just finding views,” Elizabeth previously explained. “With ‘Go Pitch Yourself,’ we’re looking to collaborate with funny fans who could embrace a spotlight, tell their unique stories, and are eager to take their craft to the next level.”
Pitch Perfect 3 hits cinemas in December (17).
