Last night on Beats 1, Bonobo spoke to Zane Lowe following the release of his new album Migration. They spoke about releasing music this early in the year, on his the release of music and genres has become more blended, collaborating with Nick Murphy, Los Angeles, upcoming collaborations.

On his new album Migration:
I mean I've never put out music in this early in the year. It feels like usually like a fairly placid time.

On how it feels to be in demand and if it’s a mental readjustment:
Yeah its been a little while since I put anything out. I mean the last 12 months has been super kind of fairly locked down at home and not really touring and not really doing that much so I had this not nice little period where I’d finished this record and it was just mine and a few people like some friends and it was, like before you know the noise of the internet just digs into it.

On how the releasing of music and genres becoming more blended over his time and how it is to watch it change:
I can feel that and just from the last three years or even just the last two years I did an EP just like that volume of noise from the Internet from just online they just do something is just all of this peripheral noise that happens but I mean you know it all feels very positive but it's just you can't edit it you know this are so much stuff .

On how it feels to have an audience anticipating his music and what a privileged position that can be today:
Totally, I get that as well. It’s a really fortunate position to know there is - you know I can feel the anticipation for it, it’s kinda almost like I owe people this record it’s not like is not like mine it's, one part of a bigger thing now. There’s a responsibility to that.

On collaborator Nick Murphy:
I’ve known him [Nick Murphy] for about three years he came out on the road with me on the last record in North Borders. It was part of the tour where we were going through some of the less sort of major markets of America so we kind of had this little adventure on the tour bus. That’s the most fun though the bus and we just really hit it off and we’ve just been hanging out since. He’s since moved from Australia to New York and was coming out to LA a lot. We actually made like two or three tunes. There was this like super kind of high energy disco thing which may or may not see the light of day. We played around with a few things. That’s been a good connection we’re gonna be playing together a couple times over this tour as well.

On having time to reset between records:
This record was originally kind of penciled for like a year ago. But I just wasn't ready, the record wasn't ready and just generally I wasn't really like I just needed like a minute to just be just a normal person just like have some time off and just like have a routine and be at home for a few months.

On if he has any interest on doing more collaborations:
Yeah definitely. I mean on the remix front I haven’t really been doing much for a while because I've been working on this one but yeah this is I guess like post record coming out is now like remix season for me I guess. There's a few more bits I’m working on. And there’s gonna be more music I made like kind of two records. so there's all of this sort of supplementary bits or sort of extensions of tracks from the record. All these little branches are gonna grow off it over the next year or so.
