Bruce Springsteen says he will dedicate the next four years as part of “the new American resistance’ to speaking out against US demagogue Trump.
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band played the first show on their 2017 tour in Perth, Western Australia.
“The E Street Band is glad to be here in Western Australia. But we’re a long way from home, and our hearts and spirits are with the hundreds of thousands of women and men that marched yesterday in every city in America and in Melbourne who rallied against hate and division and in support of tolerance, inclusion, reproductive rights, civil rights, racial justice, LGBTQ rights, the environment, wage equality, gender equality, healthcare, and immigrant rights. We stand with you. We are the new American resistance,” Bruce told the crowd.
Earlier at a media conference, about his job, Springsteen said, “We observe and we report, we witness and we testify, and hopefully through doing so we lift up and help people transcend and we try to inspire people during tough times,” he said.
“It’s been our job for 40 years and it will continue to be so in the next coming years.”
He said his band is here to “witness and to testify” about the US government.
