John Legend is happy to take his wife Chrissy Teigen's lyric suggestions on board.

The All of Me singer lets the model listen to all of his songs while he is working on them, including tracks on his latest album Darkness and Light, and she will tell him honestly if she doesn't like a particular line.

"She hears them and if she doesn't like any lyrics, she'll tell me," John said during an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden on Monday night (05Dec16). "It's not because she's like 'Oh, I don't like the way you're depicting me,' it's more like, 'Oh, that's not a good lyric.'

"She told me that for a couple of things and I changed them. I thought they were good ideas. She's got good ideas."

Host James then went on to ask John if Chrissy "wears the trousers" in their relationship, to which he replied that he wears them but "knows when to listen".

The singer was the talk show to promote both his new album and the upcoming movie La La Land, in which he has a supporting role as a musician. John's character Keith is the lead singer and guitarist of Ryan Gosling's character's band and John revealed he had to "fake learn" how to play the instrument.

"I learned how to play well enough to look like I was playing the chords that were in the song," he explained.

The 37-year-old's main focus is on music but he said he couldn't turn down the opportunity to work with director Damien Chazelle on the original Hollywood musical.

He previously had a role in 2008 movie musical Soul Men and he said he would like to do more films if he liked the role and the timing was right.
