Blake Shelton has heaped praise on girlfriend Gwen Stefani, insisting she is exactly what he needed after his marriage to Miranda Lambert ended in the summer of 2015.

The country star and Lambert quietly divorced in July, 2015, and Blake admits he couldn't have imagined he'd fall in love so quickly with such a "good human being" just months later.

Shelton and Stefani hit it off while judging U.S. TV talent show The Voice and now a year later, he's still pinching himself as he plans a second Christmas with his "hot" girlfriend.

During a recent taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which airs in America on Friday (02Dec16), the Honey Bee singer said, "It's been just an eye-opener to be with somebody like her... You think Gwen Stefani and No Doubt, (but) she is literally maybe the most normal person that I've ever met in my life.

"It's been good for me to be with somebody that's so grounded and just a good human being with a great heart.

"And she's hot! Have you seen her?"

Stefani was dealing with the heartbreak of her own shattered marriage when she met Blake - she had split from rocker husband Gavin Rossdale before she stepped up to appear on The Voice, where she met her new man.

She recently thanked her boyfriend for "kissing me back to life" as she took home the Icon prize at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards last month (14Nov16).

The 47-year-old singer couldn't resist paying tribute to her beau for helping her get her life back on track following her split from Rossdale.

Taking to the stage to collect The Icon award from James Corden, Gwen referenced Blake as she said: "Thank you for kissing me back to life."

She went into more depth in an accompanying video on the Glamour website, stating, "This year has been mind-blowing. Just to know there was a time I looked back and went, ‘Wow, there was a time when I didn’t know how I was going to get through it’. It was really hard to get the courage...Taking the pain and trying to make something great out of it is what I really try to do. Right now I’m feeling a little bit like Rocky at the top of the steps with the hands up going, ‘Woah!’ I feel like a triumph because I know how hard I worked this year to get myself into a peaceful place."
