Opera star Andrea Bocelli will make his movie debut in an upcoming biopic based on his own life.

The blind Italian tenor detailed his extraordinary rise to fame in 2002's The Music of Silence, an autobiographical novel written through the voice of the singer/songwriter's fictional alter ego, Amos.

The book was optioned for a movie and earlier this month (Nov16), Antonio Banderas signed on to star as the artist's mysterious music mentor, Maestro, with Game of Thrones actor Toby Sebastian, who portrayed Trystane Martell in the hit fantasy drama series, playing Amos.

The film is already in production and now it's been revealed Andrea himself has shot a cameo for the movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Andrea stopped by the set at Cinecitta studios in Rome and performed Puccini classic Nessun dorma onstage as part of the biopic.

British filmmaker Michael Radford, best known for beloved 1994 Italian movie Il Postino (The Postman) and 2004's The Merchant of Venice, is directing and co-producing the project, which also features Jordi Molla, Luisa Ranieri and Oscar nominee Ennio Fantastichini.

The Music of Silence script was adapted for the big screen by Anna Pavignano, Radford and Bocelli himself.

The film will cover many of the life events that led Bocelli to his career as one of the most beloved classical singers of all time, selling over 80 million records worldwide. The soundtrack is also expected to feature songs the singer wrote as a young man but never released.

Bocelli's deeply personal book detailed his childhood and the soccer accident that robbed him of his sight at the age of 12. Diagnosed with congenital glaucoma, he went blind after he was hit in the eye while playing goalkeeper, and suffered a brain haemorrhage.
