Soul superstar Adele helps to keep British rapper Skepta's ego "in check" by regularly reaching out to catch up.
The hip-hop star, who won the prestigious Mercury Prize for his Konnichiwa album in September (16), admires the way Adele has handled her rise to fame, as she manages to stay out of the headlines and stay in touch with the friends she grew up with.
Skepta is among the artists Adele befriended earlier on in her career, and her continued support is a constant source of inspiration for the MC to try and emulate her success while remaining low-key.
"Adele texts me all the time and keeps me in check," he told London's ES magazine. "She speaks to me about how things are going. She's one of the people I know that, from her (example) alone, you can move in a certain way where you're not inviting fame. She's the biggest artist in the world, bro (sic), and you do not see her in the papers (every day)."
Skepta has also found a fan in Canadian rapper Drake, but he warns fans not to expect any superstar collaborations in the near future.
"With those kind of things, I don't really know (if they will ever work together)," he said. "With Drake and Adele, I'm happy firstly that they respect me as an artist and a man."
Skepta's interview emerges days after Adele was named the richest British celebrity under the age of 30, with an estimated fortune of $115.4 million (£92 million), according to the U.K.'s Heat magazine.
Meanwhile, the rapper isn't the only celebrity friend of Adele's to praise her down-to-earth nature.
Beyonce recently told Vanity Fair, "It is so easy to talk to her and be around her. She's funny as hell and her comebacks are legendary. The most beautiful thing about Adele is that she has her priorities straight. She is a gracious woman and the most humble human being I've ever met."
