Mel C wants to help young pop stars deal with the stresses of worldwide fame.

In recent months famous faces like Zayn Malik and Robbie Williams have spoken about the anxiety and depression they've suffered during their time in the limelight, with ex-Spice Girl Mel admitting she can relate to their experiences.

Former One Direction star Zayn has even had to postpone solo gigs because his anxiety impacts him so severely, and Mel, who has also suffered from depression, wants to be a source of help for those going through similar episodes.

“Something that I want to look into is the mental health of young artists. I feel after my time with the Spice Girls, nothing can prepare you for that kind of fame,” she told Britain’s Metro newspaper.

“I look at the boys from 1D and think, ‘I wonder how they are coping’ because I have experienced that fame.”

Mel’s channelled her past bouts of depression into her new album, Version of Me - her seventh solo offering.

One particular weekend of partying at Britain’s Isle of Wight festival helped the 42-year-old pen the new tracks, after she suffered a week-long hangover following the festivities.

“I always thought as you got older things would become simpler but they seem to be getting more complicated but I have to embrace it. It really inspired the record,” she explained.

“I have suffered with depression in the past. I find it really interesting how feelings affect us so strongly. This last record I have been brave enough to delve into the past a little bit and talk about things I have really not looked into before.”

Mel also revealed that being bullied also inspired some of the music.
