Mariah Carey and her fiance James Packer are "trying to work it out" after having a big fight during a recent vacation in Greece, her publicist has revealed.
The Heartbreaker singer hit headlines late on Wednesday (26Oct16) after reports surfaced alleging she had split from Australian billionaire Packer.
Rumours suggested the couple's very different lifestyles and Mariah's upcoming reality TV show had contributed to the separation, but now her representative has spoken out to set the record straight.
The spokesperson confirms the couple is taking some time apart, admitting the singer has not seen James since cutting short a vacation in Greece in September (16).
"Mariah and James had a fight in Greece, and have not seen each other since," reads a statement issued to Entertainment Tonight. "The fight was not because of any cheating allegations or excessive spending by Mariah. James is one of the most successful businessmen in the world."
However, the rep insists they will address the status of their relationship in due course.
The statement continues, "They are trying to work it out. Right now, they're not sure if they will stay together. They are discussing it, and plan to release an official statement together about their future."
The publicist did not share any further details about the fight which prompted the couple to re-examine its relationship, but a source tells TMZ.com the "really bad" incident revolved around an encounter between James and Mariah's assistant on his private yacht. The singer left the boat immediately after the altercation and jetted back to Los Angeles with her five-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan, from her second marriage to Nick Cannon.
Meanwhile, another insider claims the stars' busy schedules had also made it difficult to spend time together.
"This isn't a typical relationship, they spend months apart," the insider shares with the New York Post's Page Six. "He's a billionaire and she's Mariah Carey, they both travel all over the world and try to meet regularly somewhere in the middle. But recently it has been hard, she has been touring and next month she goes to Mexico then Hawaii, and she's resuming her Beacon dates in New York for Christmas."
The couple began dating in June, 2015 and Packer proposed to Carey with a massive 35-carat diamond ring during a private dinner in New York in January (16).
