Lady Gaga has cheekily responded to DJ duo The Chainsmokers' criticism of her most recent single Perfect Illusion.

The Poker Face singer made her music comeback in September (16) with the track, the lead single from upcoming album Joanne, but the dance duo were unimpressed, with Alex Pall telling Rolling Stone in an interview this month (Oct16) he thought "it sucks" and reportedly scrunched up his nose.

Rather than blast them right back, Lady Gaga waited until the release of her second single A-Yo on Tuesday (18Oct16) to acknowledge the criticism by sharing a link to the song on Twitter, and adding, “#AYO @TheChainsmokers maybe u guys’ll like this 1 better.”

The duo seemed to enjoy the remark and replied, "Haha @ladygaga RESPECT" followed by a hands in the air emoji.

Singer Halsey, who has topped the charts in the U.K. and U.S. with the DJ duo's hit Closer, made it clear she doesn't have a bad word to say about the singer by tweeting, "Lady Gaga is an icon and forever one of my greatest idols. I can't wait to see where her new era takes us. #JOANNE."

Lady Gaga replied by with kiss on the cheek and peace sign emojis and thanking her for the praise, adding, "We can make it easy if we lift each other! thanks for the shoutout!" causing Halsey to start "freaking out".

Alex's bandmate Andrew Taggert then reportedly called the singer "a bald b**ch" under her tweets to Gaga and Halsey unfollowed him, but he has since declared his account was hacked and he would "NEVER tweet anything like that to one of my friends."

Lady Gaga's album Joanne is released on Friday (21Oct16).
