The Rolling Stones have cancelled their Las Vegas concert on Wednesday night (19Oct16) after frontman Mick Jagger was diagnosed with laryngitis.
The 73-year-old singer was due to take to the stage with his group at the T-Mobile Arena in Sin City, but had to pull out after being advised by doctors to rest his voice.
Jagger posted on Twitter after the announcement was made, writing: "I’m so sorry about the cancellation of Wednesday's show in Las Vegas, I’ve got bad laryngitis. I do apologise to everyone who bought tickets."
A statement from the Stones added that the group "hope to have information about the possibility of rescheduling this date very soon."
The Stones are next due to perform at the Vegas venue on Saturday (22Oct16), with that show unaffected at this point but the statement added there will be more information about this date in the near future.
The cancellation comes after the Rolling Stones headlined the Desert Trip festival at The Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, earlier this month (Oct16).
The music event dubbed 'Oldchella' ran over two weekends, with Jagger appearing to struggle at the end of the Stones' set on the second weekend. With his voice noticeably cracking as he spoke in between performances, Jagger joked with the audience about the location's dry and windy climate affecting his throat.
Last year (15), the band joined longtime producer Don Was to record their first new studio album since 2005's A Bigger Bang.
Bandmembers Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts' original plan was to write new songs, however in the end creative difficulties led to the group recording a series of blues covers to make the album Blue & Lonesome.
"We'd gone in the studio to start cutting some new songs," Don told BBC 6 Music radio. "Around day three we just hit a wall... and Keith suggested that, to cleanse the creative palette, we played Blue and Lonesome, the (American bluesman) Little Walter song."
Don recorded their efforts and says that they were so delighted with the results that the band, who started out in the early 1960s performing tracks by blues musicians, decided to record more covers.
Their new album Blue & Lonesome is due for release on 2 December (16).
