Kelly Clarkson has publicly apologised to a former date she dumped after he bored her with tales about his height.

The Since U Been Gone singer was asked to confess something she'd never spoken about before to 'win' $10,000 (£7,800) for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation during a recent taped appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and she dug up an awful night out from her teens.

The star, who is now a happily married mother-of-two, recalled a night out with a short guy, who hit on her while she was waitressing in a cocktail bar, confessing it was not one of her proudest moments.

"This is a horrible human story, but I was 18 and I had literally been on two dates in my life," Clarkson shared.

"I am super self-deprecating. I applaud it. I think it's the funniest thing ever to a point, (but) he was 5'2" and proceeded to talk about his height for a solid hour and then I went to the bathroom and then I left."

"I'm going straight to hell, I'm aware," she said, stifling the giggles. "It's the worst thing I've ever done, honestly. It was bad, y'all!"

Kelly then turned to the camera and officially apologised to the date she left dangling, adding, "If you're out there, I'm so sorry. I'm a horrible human.

"In all fairness, I was 18. Honestly, I couldn't take it. I was working three jobs and I was tired. When you choose to go on a date with someone, I just wanted a meal and a laugh and that's it. And this is why I didn't date. It doesn't end well for them."
