Following on from the first line-up news for the 22nd edition of the festival, which saw Wolf Alice, Foals and Two Door Cinema Club announced and 75% of tickets for the festival sold in just a month, Truck Festival has now unveiled even more exciting, big names for 2019.
Johnny Marr, Public Service Broadcasting and many more have now been added to the line-up of the UK’s longest running and most cherished small festival Truck Festival which takes place from July 25th – 28th at Hill Farm in Steventon, Oxfordshire.
Johnny Marr, the iconic singer-songwriter and guitarist who with his former band The Smiths, pioneered the indie rock sound and paved the way for alternative guitar music to dominate teenage bedrooms and the British charts alike. Whilst going on to play with influential bands such as The Cribs and Modest Mouse, Marr has now found his footing as a solo artist releasing three critically acclaimed albums and recently dropping brand new alt-disco-pop single ‘Armatopia’ which will no doubt soundtrack the festivals this summer from Glastonbury to Hill Farm.
Public Service Broadcasting combines an upbeat post-rock musical sound with spoken word public service broadcasting announcement vocals that give the band their name. Lifting these vocals from archival clips and announcements the London-based trio base their music on historical themes from inventions, space exploration, to industrial triumphs and fails. Creating something completely new from stories of old. Last year’s four-track EP ‘White Star Liner’ focussed on The Titanic. The band are no strangers to Hill Farm speaking of their excitement at returning for 2019, they commented “This is going to be our third time at Truck Festival and we’re very pleased to be heading back - it’s always been a fun one for us. See you in July!”
Other artists added to the line-up include youtuber and singer-songwriter Dodie whose debut album charted top five this year and who has already sold out venues such as The Roundhouse. The Japanese House, the solo project of Amber Bain who released her electronica-infused pop debut album this year via The 1975’s label Dirty Hit, rock act Mallory Knox and indie pop band Anteros. Once again this year Hill Farm is very excited to welcome back The Oxford Symphony Orchestra who are always a highlight and have become somewhat of a resident band at Truck with their classical versions of well-loved tracks showcasing the best of local talent.
Truck Festival has also teamed up with local party starters SWITCH to announce the line-up for dance tent Palm City; which includes Macky Gee, Notion, Turno, MY NU LENG, Emerald, Ocean Wisdom, K Motionz w/ MC Skibadee, Switch DJ’s and the billing for This Feeling x Pirate Studios Stage which consists of Red Rum Club, Saint Agnes, Sugarthief, The Van T's, Black Doldrums, The Estevans, Getrz, The Kicklips, Lacuna Bloome, Latenight Honeymoon, Vida, RATS and Young Garbo.
Festival organiser Matt Harrap commented, “We’re incredibly excited to finally share a huge wave of artists to our bumper Truck Festival 2019 line-up! Indie royalty Johnny Marr will be making his first trip to Hill Farm, with a setlist full of iconic Smiths’ material and awesome solo work, it is truly amazing to have one of music’s all-time greats to Hill Farm. I can’t wait for Public Service Broadcasting to close the Market Stage on Friday night - they’ve always delivered a mind-blowing show and to have them back for the third time this year is going to be awesome!
