Sophie and the Giants release new single ‘The Light’

Sheffield based Alt-Pop group, Sophie and the Giants have released their first new music of 2019, with the huge new track ‘The Light’.
Following on from 2018’s acclaimed ‘Adolescence EP’, which has been streamed a mammoth 2 million times on Spotify, the new single finds the band in epic new territory. ‘The Light’ melds their talent for evocative songwriting with beats, a looping piano line and Sophie’s soaring vocals.
“‘The Light’ was written when I was going through a particularly hard time in my life” Sophie explains. “It’s about finding the light beyond the darkness and focussing on where you need to be. I wanted to write a song that would let people know that there's always a way to change their circumstance, no matter how dire things are"
Sophie and the Giants are practitioners of innovative, left-leaning pop: a raw fusion of the band’s collective influences, which range from the likes of Wolf Alice and Blondie to Jamie T. The band was formed by Sophie (vocals and guitar), Chris Hill (drums), Bailey Stapledon (bass) and Toby Holmes (guitar) while all four of them were still at college.

The band are already picking up fans, with Radio X naming them one of their X-pectation Artists for this year, and the band performing sessions for John Kennedy and BBC Introducing Sheffield. With a full UK/European tour and more new material to come, 2019 seems set to be the year the band reach the next level.
