Giles Cooper Entertainment has announced that Kenwood House, overlooking Hampstead Heath in North London, will host a stellar line-up of live music concerts in summer 2019 within the splendour of its breath-taking gardens.
The Heritage Live Concert Series will take place across the weekend of the 14th – 16th June bringing the best in live music to the most beautiful of outdoor settings at one of the capital’s most significant historic properties.
Following on from the news Madness will perform a very special show at Kenwood House, forming part of the band’s 40th anniversary celebrations – Madness XL – comes the announcement that special guests for the show will be Squeeze’s Chris Difford, performing with singer-songwriter, Boo Hewerdine.
With over 40 years in the business, Chris Difford rose to fame with his first incarnation, co-founding Squeeze with his longtime collaborator Glenn Tilbrook. The pair quickly demonstrated an ability to turn characters and sketches from everyday life in to music, going on to write some the nation’s best-loved hits: ‘Up The Junction’, ‘Cool For Cats’, ‘Labelled with Love’, ‘Tempted’ to name a few.
Chris will discuss extracts from his book ‘Some Fantastic Place’, which takes a look back at his career, whilst performing hits from across his Squeeze back-catalogue, and debuting some new solo material. He will also be joined at Kenwood House by Melvin Duffy from First Aid Kit, a multi-instrumentalist and member of Squeeze who played on their award winning album ‘Cradle To The Grave’ from the BBC TV series written by Danny Baker.
Fresher of face and fleeter of foot than ever, it’s hard to believe 2019 will mark forty years since a ragtag bunch of self-proclaimed ‘hoolies and urchins’ called Madness first emerged, gloriously unreconstructed from the back streets of Camden Town fusing reggae, punk and pop on their classic album ‘One Step Beyond’.
A real homecoming for the group of local North London boys, who played their first ever show in the Borough of Camden in 1979, Madness will treat the crowd at the well-heeled surrounds of Kenwood House to a true one-off, career-spanning set which will see the Nutty Boys joined live by a full orchestra – plus a few other surprises!
Tightly knit into the very fabric of British life, making like somewhere between the Krays and Monty Python, lies the unparalleled story of Madness. One of the most successful pop groups ever, they continue to defy expectations, trends and the aging process.
