Omara Portuondo, the legendary Cuban singer, will return to the UK in 2019 to perform a special show at London’s Barbican Centre.

The show, entitled ‘Omara Es Cuba – El Último Beso’, could not be more apt. Omara is an icon that is synonymous with Cuba, offering audiences worldwide a glimpse into the culture of a country that was to become significantly more isolated.

Omara is predominantly known for her rendition of boleros, but has also notably recorded in such styles as Jazz and Son Cubano. Known as ‘La Novia del Filin’ (The Bride of Filin), she has popularised the Filin vocal style – a ballad-driven form of Cuban music.

Famed for her vibrant live performances, Portuondo originally rose to fame in the 1950’s in pre-revolutionary Havana in the vocal group Cuarteto D'Aida, before becoming a huge name worldwide, achieving 3 Grammy Award nominations, as well as winning the Latin Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Tropical Album for her record ‘Gracias’ in 2009.

Portuondo also achieved acclaim as on of the original members of the hugely successful Buena Vista Social Club™ in the 1990’s, whom she still performs with today.

A rare opportunity to watch a living legend, Omara will perform songs from throughout her inimitable 70+ year career, in her own unique, effervescent style.
