Singer and pianist Kandace Springs has released her remarkable second album Indigo (Blue Note), a 13-track LP of originals and choice covers that showcases the full breadth of Kandace’s artistry from smoldering R&B (“People Make the World Go ‘Round” “6 8”) to gorgeous jazz ballads (“Unsophisticated” featuring Roy Hargrove) to the pop songcraft of “Breakdown” and “Don’t Need The Real Thing.”

All but two tracks are produced by drummer/producer Karriem Riggins (Common, Erykah Badu) with additional production by Jamie Hartman (Rag'n'Bone Man), Jimmy Hogarth (Amy Winehouse, Corinne Bailey Rae), Jimmy Harry (Madonna, P!nk), and Evan Rogers and Carl Sturken (Rihanna). Indigo is available on vinyl, CD, download, and streaming services.

With this new album, Springs continues to develop and grow as singer and a songwriter in her own right. In 2014, Springs attracted the attention of the late PRINCE and the music icon invited her to perform with him at Paisley Park for the 30th anniversary of Purple Rain. He also gave her his custom-made leather jacket. Even more vibrant and soulful than her last record, Indigo truly demonstrates why she deserves to be at the forefront of modern jazz – “I would like to be known as one of the younger people that are keeping jazz and soul alive and vibrant” she says. “I love the realness of jazz and soul.”

Kandace Springs is at the South Bank Centre/Queen Elizabeth Hall on Saturday 17th November as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival, her biggest London show to date.
